
Track and Field Competes at Virginia Tech Challenge

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The East Carolina track and field made its final preparations for next weekend's Conference USA championships as the squad posted 14 top 15 finishes at the Virginia Tech Challenge in Blacksburg, Va. this weekend.
For the women, Kharya Brown took home 3rd place honors in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.51. In the 400 meter dash, Aisha Bilial Mack posted a time of 59.00, good for 13th place. Lanaire Lindo continues the Pirates recent success in the hurdle events, advancing to the semi-finals of the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.35. She finished 11th in the semi's, with a time of 8.32. Lindsey Rosales' mark of 3.52m in the pole vault was good enough for 11th place. Amy Mueller and Danielle Eiler placed in the top 15 in the shot put event, with Mueller taking home 8th place honors with a mark of 13.01m and Eiler placing 13th with a mark of 12.38m. Three Pirates finished in the top 12 in the weight throw, with Chelsea Salisbury taking 6th (16.04), Emily Thompson finishing 11th (14.02), and Jessica Georgio coming in 12th (13.92).
As for the men, Terrance Myers' mark of 19.49 in the weight throw earned him 3rd place honors. Anthony Green advanced to the semi-finals of the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.53, but finished 14th in the semi's with a time of 6.49. In the 200 meter dash, Kevin Thompson finished 13th with a time of 22.01. Christopher Richardson finished the 400 meter dash with a time of 49.34, good for 14th place. Kris Bell's time of 7.88 in the preliminaries of the 55 meter hurdles advanced him to the semifinals. He took home 9th place in the semifinals with a time of 7.72. Travis Covington took home the final top ten finish for the Pirates with a 10th place finish in the long jump (6.89m).
The Pirates return to action this coming weekend as the teams head to Houston, Texas to participate in the 2007 Conference USA Indoor Championships, hosted by the University of Houston, Feb. 23-24.
