HOUSTON, TEXAS -- The East Carolina University track and field teams completed their competition at the Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Championships at Bill Yeoman field house on the University of Houston campus Saturday. The Pirate men finished in seventh place while the women took 11th place. ECU athletes recorded 12 top-10 finishes on the day.
In the men's competition, Kevin Thompson and Adian Sanderson took sixth and seventh place respectively in the 60 meter dash finals. Thompson posted a time of 6.891 while Sanderson finished close behind with a mark of 6.897. In the 200 meter dash finals, Thompson finished third with a time of 21.92. After finishing first in the prelims of the 400 meter dash, Brandon Small posted a third place finish with a time of 48.50 in the finals. In the finals of the 60 meter hurdles, Kris Bell finished in sixth with a time of 8.34. The team of Small, Sanderson, Bryson Bowling and Chris Richardson combined to take fourth in the finals of the 4x400 meter relay, posting a time of 3:17.16. Eric Frasure followed his gold medal weight throw performance with a fifth place result of 16.21m in the shot put competition.
As for the women, Lindsay Dolan and Lanaire Lindo both recorded top-5 finishes in the 60 meter hurdles as Dolan took fourth (8.79) and Lindo took fifth (8.87). In the distance medley relay, the team of Samantha Lichtner, Jennifer White, Chalonda Silver and Hayley Flynn finished ninth with a time of 12:27.85. Chante Sessoms, Aisha Milal-Black, Shalice Anderson and Camelia Morman joined forces to take ninth in 4x400 relay, recording a mark of 3:55.08. In the triple jump, Morman posted a 12th place finish with a mark of 11.64m. Amy Mueller finished fifth in the shot put, her best throw being a mark of 14.37m.
Both teams will return to action next weekend, as they participate in the Last Chance NCAA Qualifier in Ames, Iowa. The meet will be held at the Lied Recreational Center on the campus of Iowa State University.
