CULLOWHEE, N.C. - The East Carolina University track and field teams dominated the Western Carolina Invitational this weekend, earning 12 first place finishes on the weekend. In total, the Pirates brought home 46 top 10 finishes.
In the women's competition, Chelsea Salisbury took home top honors in the javelin throw (38.94) and the hammer throw (54.90). The Pirates added three more top ten finishes in the hammer, as Charlene Grady (49.33) came in 3rd, Amy Mueller (44.90) finished 4th, and Jessica Georgio (41.96) was 8th. Amy Mueller won the shot put event with a mark of 13.77, while Danielle Eiler's mark of 13.36 was good enough for 3rd. Eiler took home a win of her own, winning the discus event with a mark of 44.22. Camelia Morman added to the ECU wins, with a first place finish in the long jump (5.59). In the high jump, three Pirates placed in the top ten, as Valeria Moore finished 3rd (1.60), while Lindsay Dolan and Meghan Horne tied for 6th (1.55). Continuing in their winning ways, Lindsay Rosales won the pole vault with a mark of 3.50, while Amy Hart finished 3rd (3.35).
Chalonda Silver took home a 5th place finish in the 100 meter dash (12.26), and a 4th place mark in the 200 meter dash (25.52). Aisha Bilial-Mack's time of 58.29 was good enough for 3rd place in the 400 meter dash. In the 800 meter event, Samantha Lichtner finished 3rd (2:16.31), while Meghan Glassmacher (11th) and Hollie Brooks (14th) both finished in the top 20. Jennifer White's time of 4:54.54 in the 1500 meter run was good enough for another first place finish, while Tayleigh Davis (5:06.00) came in 3rd, while Erinn Latta (5:20.39) was 12th. Nicole Briggs (18:49.83) finished 2nd in the 5000 meter run, while Danielle Fetty (20:09.92) came in 7th. In the hurdle events, Lanaire Lindo finished 2nd in the 100 meter hurdles (14.89) and was 5th in the 400 meter hurdles (1:12.15). Lindsay Dolan also placed in the top five in the 100 meter hurdles, with a 4th place finish (15.13). Brie Berkowitz took home 3rd in the 400 meter hurdles (1:05.60) while Jaslyn Grullon came in 4th (1:09.69). The 4x400 meter team finished 2nd with a time of 3:51.64.
In the men's competition, Spencer Barrick got things going with a victory in the javelin throw (57.04). Terrence Myers won the hammer throw event with a mark of 59.65 while Eric Frasure came in 2nd with a mark of 58.81. Frasure won the discus event with a mark of 44.77 and took home 2nd in the shot put (15.33). Three Pirates finished in the top ten in the 100 meter dash, with Kevin Thompson coming in 3rd (10.74), David Rucker in 4th (10.74), and Anthony Green in 6th (10.83). Thompson added a 5th place finish in the 200 meter dash (21.88) while Rucker came in 7th (22.04). Brandon Small brought home 2nd place in the 400 meter dash (46.32), with Bryson Bowling finishing 8th (49.38). Richard Armstrong was 3rd in the 800 meter run (1:54.48) while Aaron Mabry was 6th (1:56.10) and Michael Barrett was 13th (2:01.40). Travis Covington was 4th in the 400 meter hurdles (56.32). Finally, the men's relay squads won both the 4x100 (40.47) and the 4x400 (3:12.96) events.
ECU will travel to Gainesville, Fla. to compete in the Florida Relays April 6-7.
