TEXARKANA, Ark. - With a key eagle on hole No. 12, UAB senior Garrett Osborn carded a 70 in today's final round of the C-USA Championship and picked up medalist honors for the 2007 event with a 212 for 54 holes. Tulsa earned the team title after taking a comfortable lead following the first two rounds of the championship played on the par 72, 6,935-yard Texarkana Country Club.
East Carolina finished in 10th place after firing a three round team total of 36-over par. Freshman Tripp Brizendine carded the Pirates' lowest score of the tournament and placed tied for 14th after shooting a one-under par 71 on the final 18 holes. He finished at five-over. Junior Anthony Reale shot six-over Tuesday to finish at six-over, while senior Robin Smith and junior Andre Thorsen each finished at 11-over par.
The Golden Hurricane finished with a nine-under 855, with all five golfers placing in the Top 10. TU sophomore Nicholas Geyger fired the low round of the tournament with a 67 today to finish three-under with a 213. Geyger placed in a three-way tie with teammate Brett Myers and Houston junior Jordan Irwin. Marshall senior Shawn Warren rounded out the All-Tournament Team with an even finish at 216 to place fifth.
Teams battled against scattered showers and cooler temperatures Tuesday. On the strength of another strong performance from Osborn and C-USA Newcomer of the Year Brad Smith, the Blazers moved into the runner-up position. UAB and Southern Miss, who placed third in the team standings, both fired a 291 today.
SMU made the climb for 10th place following the first round to a fourth-place finish for the tournament after getting back the services of C-USA Player of the Year Colt Knost. The senior did not play for the Mustangs on Sunday as he was competing as an amateur in the EDS Byron Nelson Championship.
Houston and UCF finished fifth and sixth, respectively, with scores of 885 (+21) and 886 (+22). Irwin held the lead among the 55-individual field following two rounds of action to lead the Cougars. Junior Giwoh Suh and sophomore Preston Brown both finished among the Top 20 for the Golden Knights.
Memphis and UTEP tied for seventh place with a 891 (+27), while Marshall, East Carolina and Rice rounded out the field.
