ECU's Krog Opens NCAA Championships With An 84

Daytona Beach, Fla. - East Carolina sophomore golfer Lene Krog shot an opening round 84 (12-over par) during the first round of the 2007 NCAA Women's Golf Championships and currently is tied for 119. The championship is being played at the par 72, 6,6351-yard Legends Course a the LPGA International.
Krog, a native of Leir, Norway, opened up her round playing on the back nine and pared the 359-yard tenth hole. She finished the back half of the course with a seven-over par and before recording a double-bogey on No. 2. Krog finished the round with 10 pars, five bogey's and three double-bogeys. She is the second Lady Pirate to participate in the NCAA Championships as an individual following Adrienne Millican, who was a participant in 2003-04.
UC-Irvine junior Selanee' Henderson posted the low round of the day as she led the field with six birdies on her card. Henderson's 69 (-3) equaled her season low, which she achieved three times during the season.
Stanford's Lauren Todd and Duke's Amanda Blumenherst each managed to shoot 70 despite windy afternoon conditions to sit in a tie for second on the individual leaderboard. Todd and her Cardinal teammates are just four strokes behind the Trojans at 299 (+11). Blumenherst and the two-time defending champion Blue Devils are fifth, five strokes back at 300 (+12).
Veronica Felibert (USC) and Arkansas' Stacy Lewis round out the top five on the individual leaderboard as both players fired 71's (-1). Lewis is one of six individuals competing in the field.
USC emerged with a two-stroke team lead in the team portion of the event after they carded a 295 (+7). Felibert led the Trojans through swirling winds on the Par 72, 6,351-yard layout with a 71 (-1) as she made four birdies in her opening round.
Louisville and North Carolina both went out in the morning wave, avoiding much of the harsh conditions, and are currently tied for second after respective totals of 297 (+9). The Cardinals and Tarheels distance is minimal between the rest of the field as only l0 strokes separate the top 13 teams in the 24-squad field.
Second round action will begin Wednesday morning starting at 8 a.m.
