Track And Field Concludes First Meet of Season

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The East Carolina track and field teams completed its first meet of the 2008 indoor season at the Virginia Tech Invitational. Overall, the Pirates recorded 13 top 10 finishes, including five top fives.
Aiden Sanderson, who qualified for the 55 meter dash finals on Friday, took home 7th place in the finals on Saturday, with a time of 6.40. In the 200 meter dash, Kevin Thompson's time of 22.10 earned him 10th place. Ron Wright took home 3rd place honors in the 300 meter dash with a time of 34.38. Both Matt Dennish (2:27.76) and Jarrett Newby (2:29.37) finished in the top ten in the 1000 meter run, earning 7th and 9th, respectively. Akintunde Abisogun finished 3rd in the long jump with a mark of 7.18m.
On the women's side, Camelia Morman took home the top finish for the Pirates on the weekend, finishing 2nd in the triple jump with a mark of 12.45m. She added to her top five finishes with a 4th in the long jump with a mark of 5.80m. Continuing in the field events, two Pirates placed in the high jump, as Valeria Moore (1.69m) and Meghan Horne (1.59m) turned in 4th and 9th place finishes, respectively. In the shot put event, Amy Mueller's mark of 13.23m earned her 10th place honors. Stephanie McDougal took home 6th place honors in the pole vault event, with a mark of 3.55m, while Charlene Grady finished 10th in the weight throw with a mark of 14.52m.
