Pirates Bring Home Honors at UNC Classic

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The East Carolina track and field teams had a successful weekend at the UNC Classic. Overall, the Pirates recorded 20 top 10 finishes, including 14 top fives.
Adian Sanderson took home 3rd place honors in the 60 meter dash with a time of 6.86. In the 400 meter dash, Brandon Small finished 3rd with a time of 49.17. Michael Scott and Andrew Jenkins came in 6th and 7th in the 3,000 meter run with times of 9:32.65 and 9:44.14 respectively. In the 60 meter hurdles, Mario Brisco's time of 8.45 earned him 4th place honors. Linval Joseph came in 5th in the shot put with a mark of 15.19 while Ahmad Garrison's mark of 14.05 was good enough for 8th place.
On the women's side, Chalonda Silver finished 6th in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.75. In the mile run, Nicole Briggs' time of 5:25.06 earned her 6th place while Hayley Flynn finished 9th with a time of 5:34.38. Claire Macauley took home 9th place honors in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:26.31. ECU brought home three top tens in the 3,000 meter run, with Briggs earning her second top ten finish with a time of 10:53.67, good enough for 5th place. Flynn finished 9th with a time of 11:15.58 while Tayleigh Davis's 11:19.21 time was good enough for 10th.
In the field events, Lanaire Lindo finished 4th in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.95. In the high jump, both Meghan Horne and Valeria Moore finished in the top ten with marks of 1.63 and 1.58, coming in 4th and 6th respectively. Stephanie McDougal's mark of 3.40 earned her 5th place in the pole vault, while Camelia Morman took home 2nd place honors in the triple jump with her mark of 12.46m. Both Amy Mueller and Danielle Eiler each took home top ten finishes as they both finished in the top five in the shot put event. Mueller finished 4th in the shot put (13.51) and 3rd in the weight throw (15.31), while Eiler was 5th in the shot put (12.47) and Charlene Grady was 4th in the weight throw (15.16).
