Track and Field Successful at UNC, Va. Tech

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- The East Carolina indoor track and field teams split time between the UNC Relays and the Virginia Tech Invite this weekend, making final preparations for the upcoming C-USA Indoor Championships.
The men had a successful meet in Chapel Hill, as everyone who competed took home a top-ten finish. Highlighting the group was A.J. Malicdem, who won the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.36. Andre Jackson placed 8th in the 60 meter dash (7.23) and 5th in the 200 meter dash (23.33). Three Pirates placed in the top ten in the 400 meter dash, with Corin Lindsay coming in 4th (51.59), Sean Bowen in 6th (52.22), and Graham Warren in 8th (52.68). In the mile run, Harvinder Singh's time of 4:36.93 earned him 2nd place honors while Marcus Hardy's time of 4:51.36 was good for 6th. Michael Barnett finished 6th in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:02.38, and Andrew Jenkins also turned in a 6th place finish, in the 3000 meter run, finishing in 9:09.43. The 4x400 relay team crossed the line 3rd with a time of 3:30.12. Ahmad Garrison placed in both the shot put (7th, 13.70m), and the weight throw (3rd, 15.55m). Daniel Varela also placed in the top ten in the weight throw with a mark of 13.89m, coming in 6th.
On the women's side, Brittany Copeland recorded her first career victory with her 1st place honor in the 3000 meter run (10:03.13). Hayley Flynn also finished in the top ten in the 3000, coming in 9th with a time of 11:12.09. Aisha Bilal-Mack (2nd, 58.82) and Alexis Jenkins (9th, 1:04.05) came in the top ten in the 400 meter dash. In the mile run, Hollie Brooks' time of 5:23.89 earned her 4th place while Meghan Glassmacher's time of 5:26.96 was good for 5th. Claire Macauley turned in a time of 2:20.38 in the 800 meter run, coming in 4th. In the 60 meter hurdles, Lindsay Dolan (3rd, 8.81), Jaslyn Grullon (6th, 9.12), and Tara Bright (10th, 9.51) all finished in the top ten. In the 4x400 meter relay, the ECU `B' team brought home a 3rd place finish with a time of 4:10.70. Taylor Connor's mark of 1.53m earned her 6th place in the high jump. In the pole vault, Amy Hart came in 2nd with a mark of 3.40 while Stephanie McDougal finished 3rd with a mark of 3.25. India Gonzalez added to the Pirate victories with her 5.40m mark in the long jump. Danielle Eiler took home 4th in the shot put with a mark of 13.19m. In the weight throw, it was Charlene Grady (3rd, 15.16m) and Donisha Brown (14.48) who came in the top ten.
At the Virginia Tech Invite, Camelia Morman set a new school record in the triple jump with her NCAA provisionally qualifying mark of 12.68m. Valeria Moore and Meghan Horne also took home top ten finishes in field events as they came in 2nd (1.69m) and 6th (1.64m), respectively.
The track and field teams will head to Houston, Texas this weekend to compete in the 2008 Conference USA Indoor Championships Feb. 29-March 1.
