PINEHURST, N.C. --- Led by individual medalist Seth Brandon, No. 26 Indiana claimed the team title at the 2008 Pinehurst Intercollegiate men's golf tournament, co-hosted by East Carolina University and Indiana University.
The three-day, 54-hole tournament was contested on the par 72, 7,092-yard Centennial No. 8 course.
Indiana carded a final round 287 team score to finish at 865 (+1). Eastern Kentucky posted a final team score of 889 (+25) to claim second place, while No. 17 Penn State tallied a final tournament score of 895 (+31) for third place.
UNC Greensboro carded a final round score of 287 to finish with a total of 897 (+33) to edge VCU (+34) for fourth place.
Wisconsin (+40) finished in sixth place followed by Ball State and co-host East Carolina (+42), who tied for seventh place. St. Mary's (Calif.) earned a ninth place finish at 43-over, while Marquette and Western Carolina tied for 10th at 44-over.
Brandon shot an even-par 72 on Tuesday to finish at even-par 216, one stroke ahead of three other players. East Carolina's Markus Leandersson (72-73-72), Indiana's Ren Han (70-75-72) and Mike McRae (71-75-71) of St. Mary's all finished tied for second place at one-over par 217 for the tournament.
ECU junior Andre Thorsen carded a 68 on Tuesday, the lowest score of the final round, and finished with a 54-hole total of 11-over par (81-78-68=227) in 32nd place. Freshman Warren Straub also recorded a top 50 finish with a 14-over par 230 (79-74-77) in 47th place. Sophomore Tanner Briele shot 16-over (79-78-75=232), while classmate Tripp Brizendine completed the tournament at 24-over (85-78-77=240).
The Pirates will return to competition March 28-30 at the Furman Intercollegiate in Greenville, S.C.
