GREENVILLE, N.C. - Conference USA Golfer-of-the-Year Abby Bools and freshman Colleen Estes have been named to the 2007-08 NCAA Division I All-American Scholar Team announced today by the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA).
The criteria for selection to the All-Scholar Team are some of the most stringent of all college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50 and student-athletes must have competed in at least 50 percent (Division I) or 66 percent (Division II & III) of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.
Bools, a first-team All C-USA selection, completed in 11 events on the year collecting five top-5's, seven top-10's and eight top-20's. She was a two-time C-USA Golfer-of-the-Week selection (Sept. 26, 2007 and Feb. 20, 2008) and was the third Lady Pirate golfer to win two individual titles in the same year with her victories at the Myrtle Beach Classic and Qdoba Invitational. Bools concluded her sophomore campaign with a 74.77 average which ranks as the fourth highest stroke average in school history, while her 76.28 career average is the third-best all-time at ECU.
Estes, an exercise and sport science major, participated in all 11 events for the Pirates posting a 78.63 average in 30 rounds. She collected one top-10 finish and two top-20's with her best outing coming at the Qdoba Invitational, which was a tie for ninth.
Off the links, Bools has been named to the ECU Director of Athletics Honor Roll four times, C-USA Honor Roll twice, was a 2008 ECU Academic Excellence Award recipient and was named to the 2008 C-USA All-Academic Team. Estes is a two-time ECU Director of Athletics honoree and was named to the 2008 C-USA Honor Roll.
In the eight-year history of the Lady Pirates golf program, six golfers have tallied 13 NGCA All-America Scholar honors.
