Women's Golf Recognized For Team GPA

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. - The East Carolina women's golf team was one of 25 teams recognized Monday afternoon by the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) for having a collective team GPA of 3.531.
The University of South Alabama Women's Golf Team has been honored as the recipient of the 2007-2008 NGCA All-Scholar Team GPA Award. This award recognizes the women's collegiate golf program with the highest collective average team GPA which includes all of the team's student-athletes for the 2007-2008 season. South Alabama's seven team members had an average GPA of 3.734.
Of the 246 Division I women's golf institutions, the Pirates had the 15th highest team GPA and ranked 21st among all NCAA Divisional Institutions.
"I'm real proud of our accomplishments in the classroom as well as on the golf course," said head coach Kevin Williams. "These girls have a unique focus about them and they are a joy to coach. There are 246 Division I programs and having the 15th highest GPA is tremendous honor and a testament to the focus that our team has on its academics."
Earlier this month sophomore Abby Bools and freshman Colleen Estes were named to the 2007-08 NCAA Division I All-American Scholar Team by the NGCA.
The NGCA, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women's collegiate golf coaches. It was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition. Today, the NGCA represents nearly 500 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
