
Two Pirates Named Golf All-America Scholars

NORMAN, Okla. -- East Carolina golfers Markus Leandersson and Andre Thorsen have been named Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America. A total of 96 players earned the honor in Division I.
Both Pirate student-athletes were named to the Chancellor's List during the 2008 spring semester. Leandersson also received the Conference USA Academic Medal by maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or better. Thorsen was named to the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll by compiling a cumulative GPA of over 3.0.
They each excelled on the golf course as well. Thorsen posted four top 10 finishes in 11 events, while Leandersson recorded a pair of top five finishes last season. Thorsen posted an average round of 73.35 with Leandersson shooting 74.16 per 18 holes.
To be eligible for Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically and compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70-percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke average under 76.0 in Division I and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
