It was the second meet of the season for the Pirates and in both races the men and women have finished second.
On the men's side, the order of the top-five individual finishes was almost identical to their first meet, as the only change was Shaffey Singh finishing fourth on the squad this week and Michael Scott coming in fifth. Freshman Zack Montijo was again the top finisher as he came in ninth-place with a time of 26:09 in the 8K. Junior Andrew Nastasiak (26:52) and senior Drew Jenkins (27:21) trailed right behind Montijo, coming in 12th and 13th-place, respectively, as both set career-best marks. Singh came in 16th-place with a time of 28:30 and Scott placed 17th, finishing in 28:42 for ECU, as both times were also personal-bests. Rounding out the men's top-20 performances was freshman Alexandre Prevost, who completed the 8K in 28:59.
The women's team saw the return of sophomore Brittany Copeland this week, and she picked up right where she left off last season, finishing as the team's top finisher. Copeland came in eighth overall with a time of 18:39 in the 5K. Freshman Tara Wilson turned in the best performance of her young career, as she finished 10th in the race with a time of 18:58. Senior Hollie Brooks continued her strong start to the season, placing 12th while checking in at 19:14, a new career-best. Other top-25 finishers for the Pirates included juniors Samantha Lichtner (19:24/14th) and Nicole Briggs (19:32/16th), freshman Amanda Lapp (20:12/22nd) and sophomore Lisa DeLorenzo (20:15/23rd).
The Pirates have the next few weekends off before traveling to Terre Haute, Ind. on Oct. 18 to take part in the Pre-National meet.
