
Leandersson Leading Pirates At VCU

MANAKIN-SABOT, Va. --- East Carolina senior Markus Leandersson fired a three-under 69 during the second round of the VCU Shootout and finished at one-under after two rounds of competition on Monday to lead ECU (296-282=578) into 12th place in the overall standings.
The tournament is being held at the Hermitage Country Club.
Wake Forest (273-269=542) leads the field by 17 strokes over Virginia (284-275=559) and Virginia Tech (279-280=559).
Overall on the individual leaderboard, Wichita State's Dustin Garza (66-66=132) and Wake Forest's Brendan Gielow (68-64=132) are tied for the lead at 10-under.
Leandersson (72-69=143) carded a two-over par thru the first 18 holes before posting a three-under on the final 18. Freshman Harold Varner (72-72=144) shot even-par during both rounds, while senior Andre Thorsen (75-70=145) rallied to shoot two-under in the second round to finish at one-over. Sophomore Warren Straub (76-71=147) carded a three-over and junior Tripp Brizendine (75-75=150) shot five-over.
After 36 holes of competition, the Pirates don't have any player in the top 30.
The final round of play begins Tuesday at 8:45 a.m.
