CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The East Carolina women's golf team posted a final round score of 319 to finish 18th at the 2009 Tar Heel Invitational on Sunday afternoon. The three-day, 54-hole event was being played at the par-72, 6,285-yard UNC Finley Golf Course.
Upperclassmen Abby Bools and Amber Littman each finished tied for 77th place with tournament scores of 234. Bools (74-82-78) closed out her round with a six-over par 78, which consisted of 13 pars and one birdie. Littman (80-75-79) posted a seven-over par 79 with 10 pars and a birdie on the par-4, 330-yard seventh hole.
Ana Maria Puche (81-78-76) claimed a share of 82nd place with a three-day scored of 235. Her final round consisted of 12 pars and a birdie on the par-5, 518-yard 17th hole. Colleen Estes (86-76-86=248) finished 92nd, while Meghan Moore (81-83-88=252) came in 93rd.
Third-ranked Michigan State (285-283-292) won the event with a tournament score of 860, four-under par, for a 12-stroke advantage over second-ranked Auburn (296-286-290=872). Rounding out the top five were No. 11 Alabama (875), No. 34 Texas A&M (880) and No. 23 Vanderbilt (880).
Louisville's Sara-Maude Juneau took home medalist honors with a 10-under par 206 (70-68-68), six shots ahead of Vanderbilt's Marina Alex (69-72-71=212) and Michigan State's Laura Kueny (71-68-73=212).
The Pirates (12-36) will be back in action on Oct. 19th when they host the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate at the Greenville Country Club Golf Course.
