
Pirates Sweep Weekly Golf Honors

IRVING, Texas - Abby Bools and David Watkins of East Carolina were awarded this week's Conference USA Golfer's-of-the-Week, as announced by the league office Wednesday. Bools earned second-place honors at the 2009 Lady Pirate Intercollegiate after posting a three-round total of 213 (70-71-72), and guided the Pirates to a second-place finish. Watkins finished the Mizuno Savannah Intercollegiate in red numbers, after carding an 11-under-par 205 (68-68-69) and escorting the Pirates to the top spot on the podium.
FEMALE GOLFER OF THE WEEK
Abby Bools, East Carolina, Sr., Hickory, N.C. (Hickory)
Bools finished in second place and recorder her 11th career top-five finish at the 2009 Lady Pirate Intercollegiate after carding a career-low 54-hole score of 213 (70-71-72). The Hickory, N.C., native guided the Pirates to second-place honors in the event, which marked the first top-five finish of the season for the Pirates. Bools' 213 tied her for the third-lowest 54-hole score in school history and pushed her season stroke average to 75.18. This marks Bools' sixth-career Golfer-of-the Week award, and first of the 2009-10 season.
MALE GOLFER OF THE WEEK
David Watkins, East Carolina, So., Rockingham, N.C. (Richmond County)
Watkins earned individual medalist honors at the Mizuno Savannah Intercollegiate after firing an 11-under-par 205 (68-68-69). The sophomore became the first ECU player to win a tournament outside Greenville, N.C., since 2002. The Rockingham, N.C., native clipped the runner-up by six strokes and propelled the Pirates to a first-place finish in the field of 15. This is Watkins' first-career Golfer-of-the-Week honor.
