
Marshburn Leads ECU At Duke Golf Club

DURHAM, N.C. --- East Carolina freshman Michael Marshburn fired a two-under par 70 Tuesday to finish tied for 17th at the Gordin-Myers Collegiate Classic held at the Duke Golf Club.
Marshburn, competing in this first collegiate tournament, began the day at 14-over in 39th place. During today's final round, Marshburn shot par on the front nine before recording four birdies on the back nine to finish with a 54-hole tally of 12-over 228 (79-79-70).
Mark Alan Wright, also a freshman competing in his first tournament as a Pirate, shot one-over 73 Tuesday to finish at 14-over 230 (77-80=73) tied for 22nd. Junior Warren Straub finished one stroke behind Wright at 15-over 231 (80-77-74) tied for 25th.
Kent Copeland of N.C. State won individual medalist honors with a one-under 215 (69-74-72) to defeat Duke's Brinson Paolini (72-72-73=217) by two strokes.
ECU returns to team competition October 19-20 at the Mizuno Savannah Intercollegiate.
