GLENVIEW, Ill. - Senior Abby Bools carded a final round 73, one-over par, to finish in a tie for 23rd place at the 2009 Windy City Collegiate Classic. The event was being held at the par-72, 6,539-yard Glen Club.
Bools, who stood in 40th place heading into Tuesday's action, pared 11 holes and sank three birdies in her final round to finish the 56-hole event with an eight-over par 224 (76-75-73). In all, the Hickory, N.C. native managed 30 pars and eight birdies.
Fellow senior Ana Maria Puche posted the Pirates (12-18) second-best round of the afternoon, a two-over par 74, which included 14 pars and a birdie on the 12th hole for a tournament score of 229 (77-78-74), 13-over par finishing in 46th place.
Colleen Estes finished tied for 58th with a 56-hole score of 232 (76-78-78), while Amber Littman (79-77-77=233) and Meghan Moore (77-77-83=237) finished in tie for 60th and 66th place.
The Pirates, who recorded the fifth-lowest score of the day with a round of 302, finished 14th with a three-day total 915 (306-307-302).
"Once again we got behind early," said Head Coach Kevin Williams. "The conditions were tough this week with the wind, but we have to do a better job staying focused and not panicking when things don't go our way. The good thing is we fought back and had some solid play today. Now we just have to carry this over to our next tournament, which is this weekend in Chapel Hill."
Purdue captured the team championship for the second-straight year, finishing at 4-under 860 for the two-day event, defeating second-place Tulane (10-over 874) by 14 strokes. Arizona's 21-over 885 was good enough for third-place, with New Mexico, Michigan, Iowa State and UNLV rounding out the top nine.
The Boilermakers' Maude-Aimee LeBlanc captured the individual championship, shooting a 5-under 211 and holding off Michigan's Ashley Bauer (4-under 212) by one stroke with Tulane's Linn Gustaffson (3-under 213) placing third.
ECU will be back in action this Friday, Oct. 9 when they participate in the Lady Tar Heel Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C., which will be held at the UNC Finley Golf Course.
