CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The East Carolina women's golf team closed out the first round of play at the 2009 Tar Heel Invitational with a round of 316 and currently sit in 18th place with 36 holes remaining. The event is being played at the par-72, 6,285-yard UNC Finley Golf Course.
Senior Abby Bools leads the Pirates after recording an opening round 74 (36-38) and is currently tied for 31st place. The Hickory, N.C. native birdied a pair of holes and posted 12 pars for a two-over par score.
Amber Littman sits in a tie for 80th after a carding an eight-over par 80 (39-41). Sitting one stroke behind Littman are Meghan Moore (37-44=81) and Ana Maria Puche (40-41=81) in a tie for 83rd, while Colleen Estes is 93rd after a 14-over par round 86 (44-42).
Fifth-ranked Michigan State leads the event with a three-over par 285 and holds a five shot lead on No. 15 Alabama (290). Tennessee (291) is third, while Virginia (292) and Wake Forest (293) round out the top five.
Laura Kueny from Michigan State (69) holds a one-shot lead over three golfers in Courtney Ellenbogen (Duke), Sara-Maude Juneau (Louisville) and Hannah Thomson (Florida State).
