Wilson Named To All-Academic Team

IRVING, Texas – East Carolina sophomore cross country runner Tara Wilson was one of seven female athletes selected to the Conference USA All-Academic Team, according to an announcement from the league office Wednesday afternoon.
Wilson boasts a 3.81 grade-point average as a nursing major. During her freshman year, she was a two-time East Carolina Dean’s List selection. She received a Conference USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal and was also on the league’s academic honor roll in 2008.
Wilson ran in five of the team’s seven meets this season, pacing the squad her last three times out. She came in second for the Pirates at the Great American Cross Country festival with a career-best time of 18:37 in the 5K. At the Penn State Nationals, she led the women by finishing the 6K in 22:44, the 17th-fastest mark in program history. Wilson checked in 23rd at the Conference USA Championship, 22 places better than her 2008 performance, with a time of 19:23.3.
She completed her season at the NCAA Regionals, where she finished in 22:17.43 to place 67th overall. She improved 15 spots from a year ago at the regional and turned in the 12th-best time in program history.
