PALOS VERDES, Calif. - The East Carolina women's golf team posted its best round of the 2009 Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge with its final round score of 312 on Wednesday afternoon to finish 14th out of 16 teams. The tournament was being held at the par-72, 5,912-yard Palos Verdes Golf Club.
Leading the Pirates on day three was junior Abby Bools who jumped 27 spots from day two after recorded a one-under par 71 and finished tied for 20th with a tournament score of 233. For Bools it was her fifth top-20 placement in six events this season and 18th of her career. Bools and UCLA's Ryann O'Toole were the only players during final round action to record rounds of under par.
Freshman Amy Otteson (242) improved her position by five spots with a third round score of 77 to finish in a tie for 54th. Amber Littman and Ana Maria Puche claimed a share of 65th place with a 54-hole score of 247, while Colleen Estes (254) finished tied for 77th.
Arizona State held on to its top position with a final score of 898 (+46). The Sun Devils were paced by individual champion Juliana Murcia who fired a 54-hole score of 214 finishing eight shots ahead of teammate Carlota Ciganda and USC's Jennifer Song who tied for second with final score's of 222.
The Pirates (54-27-2) will be back in action on March 2 when they participate in the Pinehurst Challenge in Pinehurst, N.C.
