
ECU Leads At UNCW Lady Seahawk Classic

WALLACE, N.C. - East Carolina owns a two-stroke lead in the team standings and senior Danielle Mills of Elon sits atop the individual leaderboard after the opening day of the 9th UNCW Lady Seahawk Golf Classic at River Landing Golf Club.
Playing in near-ideal conditions, the 12 teams tackled 36 holes on Monday at River Landing, finishing play just before dusk. The final round of the 54-hole event gets under way Tuesday with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m.
The Pirates, with a 296-302=598 total, built a four-stroke lead over East Tennessee State after the first round and maintained the team lead at the end of the first day. Elon shot a second-round low of 295 and trails ECU by two strokes at 305-295=600, while host UNC Wilmington (304-299=603) and ETSU (300-303=603) are five shots back.
Mills, from Point Claire, Quebec, fashioned a 4-under-par 140 on Monday, carding an even par 72 in the first round and adding a 4-under 68 in the second round. ECU freshman Amy Otteson trails Mills by five strokes with a 73-72=145 total. UNCW's Ashley Tait (75-71=146) is six strokes out of the lead and defending champion Carmen Perez-Narbon lurks eight shots back (75-73=148).
ECU grabbed a four-stroke lead after the opening round with an 8-over-par 296 total on the Par 72, 6,165-yard rolling layout along the Neuse River. East Tennessee State was second after the first round with 300 and host UNCW carved out a 304.
Individually, Mills and ECU's Amber Littman shot an even par 72 to share the opening round lead.
