ECU Takes Third At UNCW Classic

WALLACE, N.C. - The East Carolina women's golf team recorded its fifth top-3 finish after taking third place at the Ninth Annual UNCW Lady Seahawk Classic on Tuesday afternoon. The event was being played at the par-72, 6,165-yard River Landing Golf Course.
After finishing the first day of the event with a two-stroke lead over Elon, the Pirates struggled on the final 18 holes carding a round of 318 to finish with a tournament score of 916 (296-302-318), 13 shots behind tournament champion East Tennessee State, who carded a final-round low 300.
Elon finished second with a score of 909, while host institution UNC Wilmington (931) came in fourth followed by Augusta State and UNC Greensboro in fifth at 934.
Senior Danielle Mills of Elon captured the individual crown as she held at least a share of the lead in all three rounds to finish with an even-par total of 72-68-76=216 on the par 72, 6,165-yard layout. ETSU junior Laura Jansone posted the only even-par round of the day to capture second place with a 73-77-72=222 while Elon senior Fredrique Bruell was one stroke behind Jansone with a 75-74-74=223 scorecard to claim third.
ECU's Ana Maria Puche led four Pirates with top-20 finishes when she fired a tournament score of 229 (75-75-79) to claim a share of seventh place. Freshman Amy Otteson carded a personal-best 230 to record her first career top-10 finish, a share of ninth place, alongside Abby Bools (76-75-79). Amber Littman rounded out the top-20 after her tournament score of 233 (72-81-80) to finish tied for 20th. Sophomore Colleen Estes finished tied for 25th with an event score of 236 (76-80-80).
The Pirates will be back action on Apr. 4-6 when they participate in the Bryan National Collegiate in Greensboro, N.C.
