ECU Takes Third At C-USA Championships

Tulsa, Okla. - The East Carolina women's golf team carded a tournament score of 957 and finished in third place at the 2009 Women's Conference USA Golf Championships Wednesday afternoon at the Tulsa Country Club.
Tulane took home the title after carding a final round 300 for a 933 total. Leading by six strokes at the start of the day, Tulane extended its lead and won by 20 strokes. UCF finished second with a score of 956, followed by ECU (957), host Tulsa (969), while UTEP (990) rounded out the top-five teams.
Tulane's Daniela Holmqvist claimed individual medalist honors with a 10-stroke victory as she turned in a four-over par 76 today for a final score of 225.
Tulsa's Sarah Elliott placed second overall with a score of 235, followed by Tulane's Janine Fellows and ECU's Ana Marie Puche tied for third place with a 236 total and fifth-place Teresa Nogues of UTEP with a score of 237.
Fellow Pirate Colleen Estes shot an event score of 238 to claim a share of sixth place, while Amber Littman tied for 14th with after carding a 54-hole score of 244. Freshman Amy Otteson (246) rounded out the Pirates squad with a share of 18th place. Abby Bools, who entered final round action tied for 10th, was disqualified after signing an incorrect card, which forced the Pirates to use their fifth players score and finish in third place.
The Pirates will now have to wait and see if they are selected to participate in the 2009 NCAA Regional Championships, which will take place May 7-9.
