
Straub Named To All-Academic Team

IRVING, Texas - East Carolina sophomore Warren Straub has been named to the 2009 Conference USA Men's Golf All-Academic Team as announced by the league office today. The all-academic team consists of student-athletes who have earned a 3.2 cumulative grade point average or better and are a regular participant on their team.
Straub is a finance major and carries a 3.72 GPA. The sophomore is a two-time member of the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll He owns an 18-hole stroke average of 74.7 and posted two top-20 finishes and one top-10 finish this season.
Lone senior and repeat selection Brad Benjamin of Memphis makes his third consecutive appearance on the all-academic team as a business finance major with a 3.86 GPA. The Rockford, Ill., native is a member of the Tiger 3.0 Club and Tiger Academic 30. He is a dean's list honoree and a four-time C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll member.
Tulsa's Rob Laird lands on the all-academic team as a finance major. The Tulsa, Okla., native owns a 3.67 GPA and is a member of the TU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Laird has played in all eight tournaments and has a 74.1 stroke average. He was named C-USA Male Golfer-of-the-Week this spring and has placed among the top-20 in five of eight tournaments.
UAB junior Adam West is one of two Blazers to play in all nine tournaments during the 2008-09 campaign. The business administration major is a two-time C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll member. He recorded a career best fourth-place finish at the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate where he fired a career-low round of 67.
Rice sophomore Robert Burrow is a first-year student-athlete at Rice who is one of only two golfers to play all 29 rounds this season for the Owls. Burrow, a native of Charlotte, N.C., was a member of the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and has served as a guest reader at West University Elementary School.
UTEP sophomore Herbert Day rounds out the all-academic team. Day was named to the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll and received the C-USA Academic Medal as a freshman. The El Salvador native helped UTEP to its best team finish since April 2005 by using his 10th-place finish to win the Miners second-place honors at the Anteater Invitational. A 2008 C-USA All-Freshman Team member, Day owns a 3.53 GPA as a business major.
The 2009 Conference USA Men's Golf Championship will take place April 19-21 at the RedTail Golf Club in Sorrento, Fla. The Championship will be hosted by UCF and the Florida Sports Commission.
