SORRENTO, Fla. --- Seniors Markus Leandersson (72-72=144) and Andre Thorsen (72-72=144) each pared the course at the RedTail Golf Club for a second straight day after an unpredictable afternoon of weather Monday to keep East Carolina tied for fourth place through two rounds at the 2009 Conference USA Men's Golf Championship.
UCF (279-286=585) holds a four-stroke lead over second-place SMU (284-285=569) after 36 holes. The Golden Knights fired a two-under 286 Monday to improve to 11-under for the championship, while the Mustangs shot one-under and are seven-under. UAB (286-287=573) is in third-place at three-under followed by ECU (289-291=580) and Memphis (289-291=580) at four-over in fourth-place.
Leandersson and Thorsen are tied for 11th at even-par, seven strokes behind the tournament leaders. UCF's Simon Ward (69-68=137) and Blayne Barber (68-69=137) are tied with Zac Sucher (68-69=137) of UAB for the individual lead at seven-under. SMU's Draegen Majors (70-68=138) is one stroke off the lead with four other players within five strokes.
Pirate sophomore Warren Straub (76-71=147) turned in the team's best round of the day at one-under to improve to three-over and move up into a tie for 24th. Freshman David Watkins (72-76=148) carded a four-over to slide down into a tie for 28th at four-over, while rookie Jake Colley (73-77=150) sits in 34th at six-over.
