
Golfing Duo Named Scholar All-Americans

GREENVILLE, N.C. -Three-time All-Conference USA golfer Abby Bools and sophomore Colleen Estes have been named 2008-09 NCAA Division I All-American Scholars the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) announced Wednesday.
The criteria for selection to the All-Scholar Team are some of the most stringent of all college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50 and student-athletes must have competed in at least 50 percent (Division I) or 66 percent (Division II & III) of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.
Bools, a two-time first-team All C-USA selection, posted a 75.25 season stroke average in 11 events, which ranks as the seventh-lowest single-season score in school history. The Hickory, N.C. native was a two-time C-USA Golfer-of-the-Week honoree and recorded nine Top 20 finishes, including six in the Top 10 and five in the Top Five. She has participated in 32 career events posting 16 Top 10's with a 75.91 career stroke average, fourth-lowest in ECU's history.
Estes, an exercise and sport science major, participated in all 11 events for the Pirates posting a 78.67 average in 33 rounds. She collected a pair of Top 10 finishes with her career-best finish coming at the 2009 C-USA Championships after claiming a share of sixth place.
Off the links, Bools achievements include being named to the ECU Director of Athletics Honor Roll six times, C-USA Honor Roll three times, 2008 ECU Academic Excellence Award recipient, named to the 2008 and 2009 C-USA All-Academic Team and is a three-time NGCA All-American Scholar. Estes is a four-time ECU Director of Athletics honoree, was named to the 2008 and 2009 C-USA Honor Roll and is a two-time NGCA All-American Scholar.
In the nine-year history of the Lady Pirates golf program, six golfers have tallied 15 NGCA All-America Scholar honors.
