
Bools Qualifies For 109th U.S. Amateur Championship

LEXINGTON, N.C. - East Carolina rising senior Abby Bools carded a personal-best round of 66 Tuesday afternoon to win medalist honors in the U.S. Women's Amateur Sectional qualifier hosted by Sapona Country Club on the par-71, 6,323-yard course. With the win Bools qualifies for the 109th U.S. Women's Amateur Championship, which will be held Aug. 3-9 in St. Louis.
Bools had a bogey-free round where she recorded and eagle and three birdies on the day. The eagle came on the par-4, 366-yard No. 9 when she holed out a 160-yard bunker shot with a 6-iron.
The Hickory, N.C. native birdied the par-4, 358-yard No. 6 and finished the front nine with a 32. On the back nine, she recorded birdies on No. 12 and No. 16 for a round of 66 (32-34), five-under par.
The sectional win gives Bools her third consecutive Amateur Championship appearance and continues a successful summer that includes a second-place finish at the Carolinas Women's Amateur, a runner-up placement at the Women's Western Amateur and another second-place finish at the North-South Women's Amateur, in which she defeated the No. 4 ranked amateur in the country, Candace Schepperle 6 and 5.
Currently Bools is tied for 13th in the country in the latest GolfWeek/Titleist Women's Amateur Rankings.
