
Hardison Leads Lady Pirate Intercollegiate

GREENVILLE, N.C. - Redshirt-freshman Faith Hardison carded a first round 141 and currently holds a two-stroke lead over Maryland's Christine Shimel after 36 holes at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate. The two-day event is being played at the par-71, 6,040-yard Greenville Country Club.
Hardison, who started round one on the 18th hole as an individual, birdied her first four holes before recording a double-bogey on the fifth hole. After the front nine, the Jamesville, N.C. native carded a two-under 33 and finished the back with a one-over 35, for a personal-best 68. Hardison followed that with a five-over 73 for 36-hole score of 141.
Shimel fired six birdies on the day and sits in second with a score of 143 (71-72), while Hannah Hellyer (Gardner-Webb), Rui Li (Penn) and Natalie Wille (Augusta State) are tied for third at 144.
Maryland (586) leads the team portion of the event after firing rounds of 292 and 294 and holds a three-shot advantage over Penn (293-296=589). East Carolina (291-301) and Augusta State (292-300) are tied for third with a 24-over 592. The Pirates recorded a tournament-low 291 in the first round and held a one-shot lead after the first 18 holes.
Fanny Wolte (72-74=146) is tied for eighth after registering eight birdies on the day. Amy Otteson (75-73=148) is tied for 13th, while Amber Littman (72-77=149) is one shot behind Otteson sitting in a share for 21st. Rounding out the Pirates' squad is Colleen Estes (72-82=154/t46th) and Julia Strandberg (78-77=155/t54th). True freshman Andrea Estes, who is playing as an individual, posted rounds of 84 and 80 and is in 82nd place with a score of 164.
