
Pirates In Third At C-USA Championships

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The East Carolina women's golf team carding a first round score of 296 and currently sits in third place at the 2010 Conference USA Women's Golf Championships. The 54-hole event is being played at the par-71, 6,146-yard Canebrake Country Club.
The Pirates (92-63-1) are seven strokes behind first round leader No. 27 Tulane (290) and one stroke back of Memphis (295). Rounding out the top five are No. 46 Tulsa (297) and 95th-ranked UTEP (300).
ECU's Abby Bools (t5th) is one of three Pirates ranked in the top 15 after posting an opening round 72 where she birdied the second and fourth holes for a front nine score of 35. Sophomore Amy Otteson is tied for 10th after an opening round two-over par 73, where he recorded two birdies and 13 pars.
Colleen Estes is tied for 12th after posting a front and back nine score of 37 which included 13 pars and one birdie on hole No. 17. Junior Amber Littman (77) and senior Ana Maria Puche (79) are tied for 26th and 33rd respectfully.
Sitting atop the leader board are UTEP's Shang Haung, Tulane's Ashley McKenney and Tulsa's Sarah Elliot all with a one-under par 70. Kristina Merkle (Tulsa) is in sole possession of fourth after an even round 72.
The Pirates will be back on the course Monday morning when they tee off from the first hole at 9:50 a.m. (EDT).
