Pirates Take Second At C-USA Championships

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The East Carolina women's golf team fired a final round 288 and finished second at the 2010 Conference USA Women's Golf Championships. The 54-hole event is being played at the par-71, 6,146-yard Canebrake Country Club.
Senior Abby Bools continued her stellar play Tuesday posting an even par 71 for a three-day total 212, which put her in a three-way tie for second place with UTEP's Shang Huang and Tulane's Janine Fellows. The Hickory, N.C. native recorded three birdies on the day at holes No. 2, No. 9 and No. 18 for a front round 36 and back nine 35.
Sophomore Amy Otteson finished tied for eighth after a final round 71 for a 54-hole score of 220. Amber Littman claimed a share of 10th, her first top-10 placement of the year with a score of 221. Rounding out the Pirates lineup were Ana Maria Puche (224) in 18th place and Colleen Estes (226) in a tie for 22nd.
Tulane took the C-USA title for the second-straight year with a six-over par 858. The 27th-ranked Green Wave led wire-to-wire with rounds of 290, 283 and 25 to finish 14 strokes ahead of the Pirates (296-288-288=872). Tulsa finished third, 17 strokes behind ECU, with a tournament score of 889 (297-300-292).
Ashley McKenny of Tulane took home medalist honors with a three-under par 210 (70-68-72), while Tulsa's Kristina Merkle rounded out the top five with a three-day score of 217 (71-74-72).
The Pirates will be back in action this Saturday when they host their final Tri-Match of the season against Duke and South Carolina.
