
ECU Named All-Academic Team

NORMAN, Okla. --- The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) has recognized East Carolina as an All-Academic Team. A total of 113 teams submitted GPAs of 3.00 or higher and earned All-Academic Team recognition.
To be eligible for GCAA All-Academic Team honors a college of university must submit the grade points earned and hours attempted for each player on its official squad list for the academic year.
As a team, the Pirates posted a 3.261 GPA which was tops among all Conference USA men's programs and earned them the Conference USA Sport Academic Award. David Watkins has a cumulative 3.60 GPA as a business administration major and was named to Conference USA All-Academic Team this past season. Warren Straub was also recognized for his academic achievements and was named a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar. Departed seniors Tripp Brizendine and Matt Sterling each received the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal for maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or better.
DePaul (Division I), Maryville (Division II), Carnegie Mellon (Division III), Ohio Dominican (NAIA), Frank Phillips (NJCAA DI) and South Mountain (NJCAA DII) were named Academic National Champions for their respective divisions announced the GCAA. Albion, Brown, Butler, Carnegie Mellon, DePaul, Detroit Mercy, Duke, East Tennessee State, Gonzaga, Mercer, Ohio Dominican, Puget Sound, Seton Hall and Wofford were also accorded President's Special Recognition status for earning team GPAs of 3.50 or better.
