GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina women's golf team will be teaming up with the Bradford Creek Public Golf Course this weekend to help raise money for Patriot Golf Day, Head Coach Kevin Williams announced Thursday afternoon. Bradford Creek along with Brook Valley Country Club, Greenville Country Club and Ironwood are four of 410 facilities in the Carolinas and of over 5,000 across the country participating in Patriot Golf Day.
On Saturday, Sept. 4 and Monday, Sept. 6, the Pirates will be at Bradford Creek from 7-11 a.m. raising money for the Folds of Honor Foundation, which provides post secondary educational scholarships for children and spouses of military service men and women killed or disabled while serving our great nation.
"Along with Mike Cato (Bradford Creek's golf professional) it was a no-brainer in our minds to do whatever we could to help these families out," said Williams.
PGA Professional Dan Rooney, an F-16 fighter pilot who holds the rank of major in the Oklahoma Air National Guard, is the founder of the Folds of Honor Foundation and served three tours in Iraq.
"We have lost so many soldiers who have given the ultimate sacrifice," said Rooney. "America can come together in the spirit of golf and have a dramatic impact. We have an opportunity to make a difference for the families who have made the ultimate sacrifice."
More than 4,480 PGA-staffed facilities participated in the third annual Patriot Golf Day in 2009 that raised more than $5.4 million dollars in the past three years and the Folds of Honor Foundation has awarded more than 1,163 scholarships.
