VALDOSTA, Ga. - The East Carolina women's golf team opened the first round of play at the Kinderlou Forest Challenge with an 18-hole score of 309, 17-over par, and sits in a three-way tie for eighth place. The Second Annual Kinderlou Forest Challenge, hosted by Kennesaw State University, is being held at the Kinderlou Forest Golf Club.
Coastal Carolina (303) holds a one-stroke lead over Western Carolina (304) and a two-stroke advantage over third place Chattanooga (305). The Chanticleers have three competitors in the top-10 of the individual standings and are led by Jessica Alexander who shot a 74 (one-over), and is in a tie for sixth place.
Sitting atop the leaderboard in a tie for first are Ema de Groot (Chattanooga) and Hannah Thomson (Florida State) with a two-under par 71. Augusta State's Casey Kennedy is in third with a one-under par 72, while Marion Duvernay (Chattanooga) and Mary Beth Ramsay (Florida State) hold a share of fourth place with rounds of 72 (even par).
Colleen Estes and Fanny Wolte are tied for 16th place after the first 18 holes with a score of three-over par 73. Amy Otteson is tied for 36th (78), while Sarah Almond (79) and Amber Littman (83) are tied for 44th an 67th.
"The golf course played tough today," said Head Coach Kevin Williams. "We played good at times but struggled on the bermuda greens. The more we play on them, then hopefully the better we will get putting on this kind of grass."
