
ECU Moves Into Fourth At Kinderlou Challenge

VALDOSTA, Ga. - The East Carolina women's golf team fired the fourth-lowest score of the 2011 Kinderlou Forest Challenge Monday with a 10-over par 302 and moved into sole possession of fourth place after 36 holes. The Second-Annual Kinderlou Forest Challenge, hosted by Kennesaw State University, is being played at the par-73, 6.349-yard Kinderlou Forest Golf Club.
ECU (611) got solid play from senior Colleen Estes and freshman Sarah Almond, who fired rounds of one-over par, and have the Pirates five strokes out of second place, which is occupied by No. 36 Florida State (606) and No. 38 Chattanooga (606). Leading the 14-team field is Coastal Carolina, who carded a team score of five-over par and holds a six stroke advantage over the Seminoles and Mocs. Augusta State rounds out the Top-5 with a 36-hole score of 613.
Estes, who registered four birdies on the afternoon, is tied for 10th with a tournament score of 150 (76-74). After two rounds, she is tied for first in par-3 scoring (2.75), tied for fourth in pars made (25) and is tied for fifth in par-4 scoring (4.06).
Participating in her first collegiate tournament, Almond shot a four-under par on the back nine and is tied for 17th place with a score of 153 (79-74). The Albemarle, N.C. native is tied for second in par-5 scoring (4.70) and has recorded five birdies in 36 holes to rank among the tournament leaders.
Freshman Fanny Wolte (76-78) and junior Amy Otteson (78-76) hold a share of 19th at 154 (eight-over par) and rank among the individual leaders in pars made (23). Rounding out the Pirates roster is senior Amber Littman in 70th place at 165 (83-82).
Individually there is a three-way tie for first with Charlotte Fuilleux (Ga. State), Casey Kennedy (Augusta State) and Laura Weam (Furman) sitting at even-par (146) after 36 holes. One stroke behind in fourth is Coastal Carolina's Brittany Henderson (147) and two strokes out of the lead is Chattanooga duo Emma de Groot and Yushira Burdhram at 148.
