ORLANDO PARK, Fla. - The East Carolina women's golf team carded a final round 298 to claim a second place finish at the JMU Eagle Landing Invitational on Sunday afternoon. For the Pirates (80-33-2) it was their fifth top-five finish of the season. The three-day event was being held at the par-72, 6,282-yard Eagle Landing Golf Club.
Junior Amy Otteson led the way for the Pirates finishing fifth with a tournament score of 218 (75-71-72), which was two-over par. She ranked second in the 99-person field with 40 pars. Reigning Conference USA Golfer-of-the-Week Fanny Wolte continued her stellar play finishing tied for ninth with a five-over 221 (75-74-72), which included seven birdies on the weekend.
Senior Colleen Estes collected her third-straight top-20th finish with an eight-over 224 (73-73-78), which was good enough for a share of 17th. On the weekend she ranked among the tournament leaders in par-3 scoring (3.00) and birdies (7). Rounding out the Pirates roster were Sarah Almond (83-73-76) and Amber Littman (81-73-78) who both finished tie for 49th with a score of 232, 16-over par. Julia Strandberg, who participated as an individual, finished tied for 93rd with a score of 253 (85-79-89).
Thirty-fourth ranked Chattanooga took home the team crown with a tournament record of five-under par 859. Campbell (894) finished two strokes behind ECU (892) for third place, while USF and Miami (Fla.) claimed a share of fourth place with scores of 903.
Christine Wolf (Chattanooga) posted consecutive rounds of under par and took home medalist honors with a seven-under par 209, a tournament-low record. In the second round, Wolfe fired a six-under 66 setting a new tournament record. Wolfe's teammate Emma deGroot (213) finished second, while Miami's Maria Ronderos (215) and Florida Gulf Coast's Briana Carlson (217) rounded out the top-five.
The Pirates will take the next three weekends off before returning to action on April 4 at the UNCW Lady Seahawk Classic in Wallace, N.C.
