ECU Leads Barefoot Challenge After 36 Holes

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The East Carolina women's golf team sits in first place with a 16-stroke lead after the first and second rounds of play at the inaugural Barefoot at the Beach Challenge. The three-day event is being played at the par-72, 6-006-yard Davis Love Course at the Barefoot Resort.
The Pirates (50-32-2) fired rounds of 292 and 294 and holds a firm 16-stroke advantage over second place Wisconsin (602). Host school College of Charleston and East Tennessee State are tied for third at 608, while Kennesaw State is fifth at 609.
After play was suspended Sunday due to darkness, ECU freshman Fanny Wolte (69-75=144) emerged as the individual leader when Monday's round was completed. The Graz, Austria native carded a personal-best 69 (3-under) to start the tournament and followed that with a three-over 75 and holds a slim one-stroke lead over East Tennessee State's Nina Muehl (145).
Sitting two strokes behind Wolte are a pair of Pirates in Amy Otteson (75-71=146) and Amber Littman (71-75=146), while Campbell's Sarah Bejgrowicz (147) and College of Charleston's Leigh Whittaker (147) are tied for fifth.
Senior Colleen Estes (77-73=150) sits in a three-way tie for 10th place, while freshman Sarah Almond (77-76=153) is tied for 18th. Junior Julia Strandberg, who is playing as an individual for the Pirates, is in 79th place with a two-day score of 173 (92-81).
Final round action begins with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. (ET) with the Pirates teeing off from the first and second holes.
