
Estes Named To C-USA All-Academic Team

IRVING, Texas - Senior Colleen Estes was one of seven student-athletes named to the 2011 Conference USA Women's Golf Academic Team as voted by the league's sports information women's golf contacts Thursday.
The Cary, N.C. native holds a 3.81 GPA as a health fitness major at East Carolina. Also pursuing a business administration minor, she is a three-time C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal winner, four-time C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll recipient, seven-time ECU Director of Athletics Honor Roll member and a three-time NGCAA Scholar All-American.
On the course, Estes has played in all seven events for the Pirates posting a 76.61 seasonal stroke average. Heading into the C-USA Championships, she was recorded three-straight Top 20 finishes which included tying her personal-best finish (t-sixth) at the Barefoot Intercollegiate with a nine-over par 225. During her four-year career, she has three Top 10 placements and nine Top 20's and her career 78.42 stroke average ranks 10th all-time at ECU.
Joining Estes on the All-Academic team are Molly Ginger (Marshall/senior/3.97/sports management and marketing), Marissa Steen (Memphis/junior/3.94/sport and leisure management), Linn Gustafsson (Tulane/senior/3.65/political science), Kamryn Ruffin (Tulsa/junior/4.00/exercise sports science), Carolyn Cochran (UAB/senior/3.97/biology) and Katie Detlefsen (UCF/graduate school/4.00/advertising and public relations).
Detlefsen is a three-time C-USA All-Academic selection, while Cochran and Steen have garnered the honor twice.
Estes and the Pirates (89-33-2) will participate in the 2011 C-USA Women's Golf Championship, which begins Sunday, April 18 at the Peninsula Golf Club in Gulf Shores, Ala.
