ECU Finishes Seventh At C-USA Championships

Final C-USA Championship Results 
GULF SHORES, Ala. - Junior Amy Otteson closed out the 2011 Conference USA Women's Golf Championships with a one-over 73 and finished tied for 15th alongside fellow Pirate Fanny Wolte with a three-day score of 229, 13-over par.
Otteson, who record her seventh top-20 finish of the season, started on the back nine recording eight-straight pars before bogeying the 18th hole for a one-over par. She birdied the first hole then registered five more pars before her second and final bogey of the round on the sixth hole.
Wolte posted her seventh top-20 finish after carding a final round five-over 77. After the first nine holes, where she started on the back nine, Wolte was two under par, but a challenging front nine resulted in a four bogies and a triple bogey on the sixth hole for a seven-over par 43.
Senior's Amber Littman (77) and Colleen Estes (78) finished tied for 21st with a tournament score of 231, while redshirt freshman Faith Hardison (241) moved up six spots to a tie for 38th with a three-over 75.
In one of the most competitive championships in league history, the UTEP Miners emerged as victors after carding a final-round 300 to take the crown. The team title was the first in program history as the Miners earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship. UTEP junior Teresa Nogues took medalist honors with a tournament-total 218 (two-over) becoming just the second Miner to take the individual crown in the team's history.
Tulsa, which started the day in sixth, posted the best round of the day as the Golden Hurricane came together for a 296 scorecard and took runner-up. Tulane finished just one stroke behind to earn third, carding the team's best round of the tournament at 300
ECU (92-39-2) finished seventh, its worst finish in the C-USA Championships since the 2001-02 season, with a score of 917 (309-306-302).
On the individual side, Nogues was followed by Memphis' Marissa Steen, who shot a final-round 73. Tying for third were Marita Engzelius of Tulsa and Meghan Chapman of Tulane, as the duo ended the three-day event at five-over par. UTEP's Rosana Gomez and Tulane's Maribel Lopez Porras each tied for fifth to round out the top-five and solidify the All-Tournament Team.
The C-USA Women's Golf Championship was conducted at the Peninsula Golf and Racquet Club in Gulf Shores, Ala., with teams playing the par-72, 6,246-yard Cypress-Marsh course.
The Pirates will learn their fate for NCAA post-season play on Monday, April 25. The selection committee will hold a conference call at 7 p.m. (EST) and will select 24 teams in each of the three regions as well as a total of nine individuals to be placed in each region.
