WALLACE, N.C. - The final round of the UNCW Lady Seahawk Classic has been cancelled Tuesday due to inclement weather in the southeastern North Carolina region.
A line of strong to severe storms made their approach onto the eastern seaboard early Tuesday morning, bringing heavy rains and strong winds that have featured gusts topping 60 mph. In response to the approaching storm, a severe thunderstorm warning and a tornado watch were issued for the region Tuesday morning, forcing the cancellation of the final round.
East Carolina was declared the tournament winner after posting a 294-309=603 result on the opening 36 holes Monday. Pirate freshman Fanny Wolte was awarded individual medalist honors with a 73-75=148 total.
With today's wash out, the Pirates (89-33-2) won their third event of the season and 21st in their 11-year existence.
The Pirates will be back in action on April 18 when they participate in the Conference USA Golf Championships in Gulf Shores, Ala. The three-day event will last until Apr. 20 with the winner of the Championships receiving the leagues bid to the NCAA Championships.
