
Estes Receives Spirit Of Service Award

IRVING, Texas - East Carolina senior golfer Colleen Estes has been selected as one of 12 recipients of the spring Conference USA Spirit of Service Award Commissioner Britton Banowsky announced Tuesday afternoon. The C-USA Spirit of Service Award is designed to recognize the community service efforts of the league's student-athletes, based upon significant community service, good academic standing and participation in their elected sport.
The Spirit of Service award is presented three times throughout the season, with today's honorees representing Conference USA's spring sports: baseball, equestrian, men's and women's golf, women's rowing, softball, men's and women's tennis and men's and women's outdoor track and field.
Estes, who recently earned her degree in health fitness with a business administration minor, is a four-time C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal winner, four-time C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll recipient, eight-time ECU Director of Athletics Honor Roll members, three-time National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) Scholar All-American and 2011 C-USA Golf All-Academic Team member.
The Cary, N.C. native has given back to the community while serving as captain of the Pirate women's golf team that earned a spot in the 2011 NCAA Regionals. Estes has spent more than 100 hours planning and participating in activities within the Greenville community. She served on the planning committee for the city's first annual Ovarian Cancer Walk that raised $4,000, participated in two Relay for Life events and three SAAC Holiday Parties. Additionally, she also volunteered 80 hours in Montana's Glacier National Park.
On the course, she participated in all 11 events for the Pirates including her fourth-straight NCAA Regional in South Bend, Indiana where she recorded a tournament score of 233. Estes posted a personal-best stroke average of 76.77 during her senior campaign and closed out her four-year career with a 78.35 average, which ranks 10th all-time in school history.
