
Pirates Move Into Fourth Place At Golfweek Challenge

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. --- The East Carolina men's golf team carded an eight-under 280 on Monday to move to 15-under and into fourth-place following the second round of play the Golfweek Program Challenge. The Pirates trail co-leaders Campbell and Jacksonville State, which are 21-under each, by six strokes heading into the final round Tuesday at the True Blue Golf Resort.
ECU senior David Watkins pared 13 holes and birdied five others to card a second round five-under 67 and move into third-place at nine-under, two shots behind individual leader Andrew Gai of Campbell. Jacksonville State's Tomaz Anderson finished the day in second-place, one shot behind Anderson.
Watkins' fellow senior teammate Adam Stephenson fired a four-under 68 to move up 19 spots into a tie for seventh at four-under through 36 holes. Stephenson birdied four of the last nine holes after shooting even par on the front nine.
Senior Harold Varner carded a par 72 during Monday's second round to remain at two-under for the tournament. Sophomore Ryan Eibner shot two-over to fall to one-over, while senior Jake Colley posted a one-over to drop to two-over.
ECU will begin third round play Tuesday morning at 8:30 paired with Central Arkansas and Northern Iowa.
