
ECU Men's Golf In Third At VCU Shootout

MANAKIN-SABOT, Va. - The East Carolina men's golf team is in third place after two rounds of the VCU Shootout, hosted by Virginia Commonwealth at the Hermitage Country Club's par 72, 6,955-yard Manakin Course.
The top four teams are separated by just five shots, as No. 22 Virginia leads with a score of 559, three shots ahead of No. 41 Virginia Tech. The Pirates are four shots behind the first-place Cavaliers, and one clear of fourth-place Iowa State.
ECU is led by senior Harold Varner, who is alone in third-place with a two round tally of seven-under 137. Varner sits two strokes back of individual leader Scott Fernandez of Iowa State.
Senior Adam Stephenson is in a three-way for fourth-place at six-under 138. Stephenson carded a five-under in round one before settling for a birdie round of 71 in the second round. Fellow senior David Watkins carded a five-under 67 in the second round after shooting two over in the opening round to finish the day at one-under 143.
Sophomore Ryan Eibner carded rounds of 73 and 72 as he tied for 38th at one-over 145. Junior Zach Edmondson is in a tie for 74th with rounds of 76 and 75.
The final round gets underway tomorrow morning at 8:45 with the Pirates playing alongside Virginia and Virginia Tech.
