IRVING, Texas - East Carolina junior cross country runner Bjork Olsen was one of seven female student-athletes selected to the 2012 Conference USA All-Academic Team, according to an announcement from the league office on Monday afternoon. Five seniors, five juniors and five sophomores make up this season's two squads.

Olsen boasts a 3.98 grade-point average as a public health studies major and is a two-time Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll selection. She has also earned a place on the ECU Dean's List in each of her four semesters and been awarded a C-USA Academic Medal twice.

The Torshavn, Faroe Island native, had an exceptionally strong season for the Pirates in pacing the team six times while turning in five top-15 finishes and earned First Team All-Conference USA honors. Olsen was also a Southeast All-Regional choice after finishing 18th of 255 runners last week in the NCAA regional meet in Charlotte, N.C. Her 18th place finish was the second-highest finish ever by an ECU runner in the event.

She finished her cross country season with the team's top times in both the 5K (17:17.8) and the 6K (21:04.01). Olsen also earned the meet victory at the ECU Pirate Invitational and finished as the runner-up at the Seahawk Invitational.

Olsen is the first ECU cross country runner to be named to the C-USA All-Academic team since Zack Montijo in 2010. She is the first ECU woman to be named to the team since Tara Wilson in 2009. Overall, OIsen is the third different ECU woman to earn all-academic recognition (Wilson in 2009 and Hayley Flynn in 2006 and 2007) and the fifth ECU cross country runner (Montijo in 2010 and Stephen Tausend in 2006).
