ECU Completes Opening Weekend With Virginia Rematch

GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina (3-1) completes its opening weekend of play with a 12:00 p.m. contest against Virginia (4-0) on Sunday afternoon.
The Pirates picked up a pair of wins Saturday by topping Canisius and Drexel. Friday, East Carolina fell to Virginia before downing Canisius on opening day.
In Friday's contest against the Cavaliers, Melanie Mitchell struck out 13 Pirates while Virginia's Alex Skinkis tallied two hits, a run scored and another driven in to lead the offense to the 3-1 victory.
Sophomore Jasmine Robbins and junior Cicely Lopez hit consecutive doubles in the top of the sixth to provide ECU's lone run of the contest. Freshman Courtney Smith made her Pirate debut and scattered four hits and did not walk a batter in the complete-game effort.
