Pirates Finish In Fifth-Place At Palmetto Intercollegiate

Virginia (292-278-285=855) finished one stroke behind the Tigers in second-place with South Carolina (286-284-293=863) claiming third-place, nine strokes back and No. 34 Liberty (291-290-286=867) taking fourth, one stroke ahead of the Pirates. The Flames and 35th-ranked Cavaliers are both rated ahead of the Pirates in the latest power rankings. However, the No. 45 Pirates finished nine strokes in front of No. 27 Chattanooga, which placed ninth.
ECU senior Harold Varner carded the lowest round of the day, finishing with a 2-under 68. He placed fifth overall with a 4-over 210 (69-77-68). Fellow senior David Watkins was the only other Pirate to finish in the top-20, placing 14th at 7-over 217 (70-71-76). Junior Eric Brady tied for 29th at 10-over 220 (75-73-72), while senior Adam Stephenson (76-71-77) and sophomore Ryan Eibner (77-70-77) tied for 45th at 14-over.
Virginia's Ben Kohles (69-70-70=209) narrowly edged out Clemson's Crawford Reeves by posting a 69 in the final round to win individual medalist honors. Reeves (69-70-70=209) carded a 70 in round three. Kohles has now won the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate in two of the last three years. He also garnered individual medalist honors in the 2010 Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate with a score of 204 (70-63-72).
ECU will next compete in the General Hackler Championship at the DeBordieu Club in Georgetown, S.C. The 54-hole tournament hosted by Coastal Carolina will be contested March 11-12.
