RALEIGH, N.C. - The East Carolina men's golf team is in third-place after day one of competition at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate. The Pirates shot 10-under 566 over 36 holes Monday on the par 72, 7,358-yard Lonnie Poole Golf Course.
ECU (-10, 288-278=566) enters Tuesday's final round 12 strokes behind first-place UNCG (-22, 276-278=554) and nine back of second-place East Tennessee State (-9, 276-281=557). The Pirates are two shots ahead of fourth-place NC State (-8, 284-284=568) and seven in front of fifth-place Temple (-3, 283-290=573).
Sophomore George Kilgore (-6, 69-69=138) leads a trio of Pirates inside the top-15. Kilgore finished in sole possession of seventh-place, while sophomore Al Dickens (-2, 73-69=142) and senior Ryan Eibner (-2, 70-72=142) are part of seven-way tie for 12th-place. Senior Eric Brady (+2, 76-70=146) and sophomore Wes Conover (+2, 76-70=146) are among eight tied for 37th.
Kilgore's dual 18-hole scores of 69 was three strokes better than his previous career-best round and his 36-hole total of 138 was 10 strokes better than his former best of 148. Dickens' second round 69 also marked his career-best 18-hole score.
The Pirates' threesome of Kilgore, Dickens and Eibner are amongst 22 players who carded less than par scores Monday, led by UNCG's Carter Jenkins (-16, 65-63=128).
Tuesday's championship round will tee off at 8 a.m., with ECU playing alongside UNCG and East Tennessee State. Pirate players are slated to go off in nine-minute intervals starting with Conover at 9:30 a.m. Brady tees off at 9:39 a.m., followed by Eibner, Dickens and Kilgore, respectively.
