Pirates In Sixth At UCF Challenge

ORLANDO, Fla. - The East Carolina women's golf team opened the Spring part of its schedule Sunday afternoon at that UCF Challenge posting a 1-over par 289 and currently sits in sixth place after 18 holes. The three-day, 54-hole event is being held at the RedTail Golf Club.
South Carolina (283, 4-under) holds three-shot lead over Augusta State (287, 1-under), North Carolina and tournament host UCF. Tulane rounds out the top five with an even-par 288, just one-shot ahead of the Pirates.
Freshman Frida Gustafsson Spang leads the Pirates after posting a 2-under par 70 and sits in a five-way tie for eighth place. Fellow classmate Nicoline Engstroem Skaug (71) is one-stroke behind in a tie for 13th. Senior Fanny Wolte along with sophomores Emily Eng and Katie Kirk are all tied for 35th after firing an opening round 1-over par 74.
Sitting atop the leaderboard after 18 holes are a pair of Augusta State players in Casey Kennedy and Natalie Wille with a 5-under par 67, while South Carolina's Justin Dreher is in third just one shot back.
Second round action begins at 8:30 a.m. (EST) with the first Pirate set to tee off at 9:15 a.m.
