ECU Takes Fourth At Lady Paladin Invitational

GREENVILLE, S.C. -East Carolina carded a final round 298 to claim its second-straight fourth place finish of the 2013-14 season Sunday afternoon at the 42nd Lady Paladin Invitational. The three-day, 54-hole event was being played par-72, 6,266-yard Furman University Golf Course.
The Pirates (20-6), who finished with a 27-over score of 891, moved up one spot to fourth after tournament host Furman (894) posted a final round 303 dropping to fifth. Wisconsin claimed the team title with a tournament record 1-over 865. The Badgers fired a third round score of 281, also a new tournament record, topping runner-up Clemson (867) by two strokes. GRU Augusta rounded out the top three with a score of 870 (6-over).
A pair of sophomores in Frida Gustafsson Spang and Nicoline Engstroem Skaug led the Pirates on the weekend. After carding a second round 69 to move into a tie for fourth, Spang struggled Sunday afternoon posting a 7-over 79, which included six bogeys and a double bogey, dropping her into a tie for 17th at 221. Skaug (225) moved up five spots to finish 25th, her sixth career Top-25 placement, after a final round 2-over par 74 that included four birdies, two bogeys and a pair of double bogeys.
Senior Fanny Wolte (227) fired a scored of 4-over to finish tied for 31st, while juniors Emily Eng and Katie Kirk each posted rounds of 2-over par to finish tied for 45th at 230. Sophomore Lane Gakeler, who played as an individual, finished her first event of the season tied for 56th with a three-day score of 233 (17-over).
Clemson's Ashlan Ramsey garnered individual medalist honors after shooting a 2-under 70 on Sunday for a 54-hole total of 209 (7-under), breaking the former Lady Paladin tournament record of 210, set by Auburn's Celeste Troche in 2000. Eunice Yi (GRU Augusta) finished three shots back of Ramsey in second place (212/4-under), while Sloan Shanahan (Clemson) and Kris Yoo (Wisconsin) finished tied for third at 3-under par (213).
Kennesaw State's Ines Lescudier had the shot of the day recording a hole in one on the par three No. 14.
The Pirates will be back in action Sept. 30-Oct.1 when they travel to West Point, Miss. to participate in the Old Waverly Bulldog Invitational, which is hosted by Mississippi State.
