ECU Finishes Fifth At Rees Jones Invitational

DAUFUSKIE ISLAND, S.C. --- The East Carolina men's golf team finished fifth at the Rees Jones Intercollegiate, which concluded Tuesday afternoon at the Haig Point Club.
The Pirates finished with a three-day total of 35-over 899 (298-292-309), one stroke ahead of fellow Conference USA member Middle Tennessee and five strokes back of fourth-place UNC Wilmington.
Kennesaw State claimed the team title by two strokes over South Florida and South Carolina, who tied for second. KSU finished the tournament with a final tally of 21-over 885, while Bulls and Gamecocks each fired a 23-over 887.
South Florida's Chase Koepka led wire-to-wire to earn individual medalist honors with a 54-hole score of 4-under 212. UNCW's Payne McLeod finished as the runner-up at par 216.
ECU had four players finish in the top 20, led by redshirt sophomore Al Dickens who posted his first career top 20 finish. Dickens shot 5-over during the final round to finish tied for 11th at 5-over 221. Senior Ryan Eibner carded a third round 76 to move up four places and finish tied for 16th at 8-over 224.
Senior Eric Brady and sophomore Jacob Hicks, who was playing as an individual, were part of a five-way tie for 19th at 9-over 225. Brady turned in a 5-over 77 Tuesday, while Hicks posted his best round of the tournament with a 1-over 73.
Pirate sophomore George Kilgore fired a 10-over 82 during round three to finish tied for 44th at 18-over and redshirt freshman Josh Chandler came home tied for 62nd with a cumulative score of 239.
ECU will return to the links Oct. 7-8 at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course on the Centennial Campus of NC State.
